Are YOU a future Knight?

If so, we’re excited about the prospect of meeting you and your parents in the coming months as we begin the fall 2016 admissions season.  Please pay particular attention to the events, dates, and deadlines listed below:

OPEN HOUSE:  SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2015, 1:00 P.M.

Here’s the date you’ve been waiting for!  Admissions Season 2016 officially kicks off with this annual event. Spend an hour or two with us on Sunday afternoon, November 8th to learn more about our middle school and/or high school programs, pick up a 2016-2017 application packet, tour the facility with current students, and meet many of our teachers, coaches, and parents.  This is a family day, so prospective students (of all ages!) and their parents are welcome.

APPLICATIONS FOR FALL 2016 ENROLLMENT

We will begin accepting applications for fall 2016 enrollment the Monday following our Open House. Applicants should strive to get their application into the school office as soon as possible, but by mid-December is preferable.  That way, you are more likely to receive your preferred testing date (see below) and be in the first round of notifications that go out around March 15th. Once you have submitted your application, you have completed the first step in the admissions process. Remember, when it comes to getting the application completed, “the early bird gets the worm!”

PROSPECTIVE PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT:  TUESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 7-8:30 P.M.

This is a great way for parents to see what sets SJCS apart from other schools. Parents are invited to attend up to 4 break-out sessions on various topics: Academics, Athletics, College Guidance, Financial Aid, Fine Arts, Parent Involvement, and Student Life/Campus Ministry. While this evening is designed with parents in mind, prospective students are welcome to attend.

PRIORITY ADMISSIONS TESTING FOR FALL 2016 ENROLLMENT

You’re on your way to becoming a Knight! Priority testing will be held on one of two Saturdays:  January 9, 2016 or February 6, 2016.  Students who test on one of these two dates will get the first look and be the first to receive notification (around March 15th). Any incoming ninth grader who tests on one of these two dates will also be in the running for one of two academic merit scholarships awarded each year to high school freshmen.  The last scheduled admissions testing date is Saturday, March 12, 2016.

HIGH SCHOOL SHADOWING VISITS

If you’re a ninth grade applicant, you will be invited to campus to shadow a current high school freshman as part of the admissions process. Shadowing dates are scheduled by the Admissions Office following the Admissions Testing, so beginning in January 2016, we will pair incoming ninth grade applicants with our Freshmen Student Ambassadors based on similar interests. Applicants will spend the day shadowing freshmen classes, meeting freshmen teachers, and seeing what student life is like at St. Joe’s.  By the end of the day, most students can’t wait to become a Knight!

MIDDLE SCHOOL BRING A FRIEND DAY:  FRIDAY, JANUARY 15, 2016

Are you a prospective middle school student who would also like to see what life is like at St. Joe’s?  While we don’t offer middle school shadowing, we do offer one day where prospective middle school students can come take a look. St. Joseph’s middle school students will be encouraged to bring a friend (from grades 5-8) to school for a half day of classes and lunch on January 15, 2016. Greenville County Schools have this day off, so that should make it easier for more students to be able to attend.  Don’t know a St. Joe’s middle school student who could host your child?  No worries! We will find a host for you. Look for the registration forms on our website in December.

PRIORITY DEADLINE FOR FINANCIAL AID REQUESTS:  FRIDAY, JANUARY 29, 2016
From our earliest beginnings, the school has been committed to offering an excellent, Catholic, college-preparatory education to qualified students who wish to attend, regardless of their ability to pay. In the 2015-2016 school year alone, St. Joseph’s awarded $760,000 in tuition assistance and discounts to 37% of our school families. The school offers two plans depending on grade level: Flexible Tuition Program (for high school applicants) and Tuition Assistance Program (for middle school applicants). Award amounts may vary from year to year and are based upon the number of qualifying families, their need, and available funds. The FACTS Management Aid Assessment Form for applying for this need-based assistance can be found on our website under Admissions/Affording SJCS, beginning January 2016.  The priority deadline for submitting this form is January 29, 2016 in order to ensure that your request can be received, processed, and communicated in your child’s acceptance packet on March 15th; however, applicants who apply later are encouraged to complete the form when submitting an application.

SCHOOL TOURS

If prospective parents and students would like to schedule a private tour, we are happy to do this at just about any time during the school year. Tours are scheduled by the Admissions Office on most weekdays (except Wednesdays) and usually last about an hour.  Please schedule your tour in advance by calling Barbara McGrath, Director of Admissions, at (864) 234-9009, ext. 104, or emailing admissions@sjcatholicschool.org.

PRIORITY ADMISSIONS NOTIFICATION DATE:  MARCH 15, 2016

Applicants who complete the admissions process by the end of February will be mailed notification on or around March 15. Successful applicants will be asked to enroll by March 24, 2016 in order to secure their spot for fall 2016. A $300 enrollment fee is all that is required at this time. Tuition payments for the 2016-2017 school year begin in July 2016, and can be paid in one of four ways: single payment (3% discount), semi-annual payment (1.5% discount), or in ten-month or twelve-month installments.

NEW STUDENT NIGHT:  MONDAY, APRIL 25, 2016

All newly accepted and enrolled students and their parents will be invited to campus on April 25th for an important and informative evening. A general information session for all will include a checklist of “What’s Next”…everything you can expect and need to know to help prepare for the start of school in August 2016. In addition, smaller break-out sessions will be held to address specific needs by grade level.
