Mission Trip Creates New SJCS Tradition

Beginning a new tradition, 21 members of the Class of 2014 traveled to Charleston, SC May 24- 28 for St. Joseph’s first Senior Mission Trip. The group was graciously hosted by St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (Charleston) for the duration of their stay. Organized by the South Carolina based Homeworks of America, students worked on major repairs at the home of a disabled man and his grandchildren. Seniors learned the art of repairing a leaking roof and how to lay shingles, while others scraped, glazed, and painted windows, or installed insulation in the attic. After each work day, the group bonded on the beach and enjoyed the sights of downtown Charleston including a visit to the Battery and a dinner on East Bay Street.
