Incredible efforts were made by all members of local communities to ensure significant donations to two wonderful charities…
SJCS kicked off Spirit Week festivities on Saturday, October 4th with the seventh annual Knights Challenge 5K and One Mile Family Fun Run. Sponsored by the Advancement Office and the SJCS Cross-Country teams, the race drew crowds from the Greenville, Anderson, and St. Joseph’s communities to benefit the Bon Secours St. Francis Cancer Center for Supportive Care Services. Proceeds donated to this program were made in memory of SJCS alumni parent Brian Merriman and others who have lost their battle to cancer. With 220 participants and many other onlookers in attendance, this was the largest Knights Challenge crowd to date. Students, staff, alumni, parents, and friends competed on St. Joseph’s challenging off-road cross-country course while others enjoyed making crowns and signs, along with face painting, in support of their family and friends as they crossed the finish line.
Congratulations to sophomore Ford McCoy who placed first in the 5K race with a time of 18:56.
Congratulations to the Tierney Household (Middle School Household Winner) and Megan Koon’s Household (High School Household Winner).
A special thanks to Coach George Carr, Coach Marie Kernell, the Boys & Girls Cross-Country Teams, as well as many others who lent their support for this event.
The High School Student Council also selected a charitable organization as the beneficiary to the other annual Spirit Week and Homecoming festivities. This year, the students chose to support the Greenville Area Parkinson Society (GAPS) since several families from the school are closely affected by Parkinson’s disease. The fundraising began on Monday evening, October 6th, with the second annual “Color War,” where students purchased powdered paint and paint-water guns to battle for charity on the school’s front lawn. On Tuesday evening, October 7th, Frodo’s Pizza hosted “SJCS Spirit Night,” where 15% of night’s revenue came back to the school. On Wednesday, October 8th, during the day’s activity period, Student Council hosted a Dodgeball tournament and a Putt-Putt tournament to benefit GAPS. On Thursday evening, October 9th, students paid to attend a movie night on the football field, where the movie “Remember the Titans” was projected. Although rain came and forced the students to pack up and move to the gym, they finished the movie in great spirits. The week of fundraising wrapped up with a pre-game presentation on Friday evening, October 10th, prior to the football game. Student Council presented a check for $3,900 to the Greenville Area Parkinson Society.
